Hello Tiara Talk Show listeners!

Yesterday, on September 21st, D23, the official Disney Fan Club, offered a special event at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia called the “D23 Disney Fanniversary Celebration” that celebrates several anniversaries for Disney Theme Park attractions, films, television series and more. The event was hosted by Billy Stanek and Rick Lorentz, (each of them works for the Walt Disney Archives, with Billy also working for the D23 website); it was fun to see them work off one another with several Disney jokes and banters, including an impromptu Q&A when the projector system went down.

Unfortunately, before the presentation began, we were asked to turn off all phones and audio devices. With all the electronics put away, there were no distractions; just a room filled with Disney fans who were excited to celebrate the Company together.

There were several special guests who made “appearances” on-screen at the event, including Imagineer Alice Davis, comic book writer Stan Lee, Imagineer Tony Baxter and many others. Each offered a fun story about their time working for the Disney Company that came along with several videos and images that have never been seen before.

Representing the Adventurer’s Club for its 25th anniversary, Colonel Critchlow Sunchbench made a surprise appearance, even joking that “several Starbucks stores” has already replaced the Adventurer’s Club in Downtown Disney. The entire audience was then inducted by the Colonel as official members of the Adventurer’s Club and sang the Club’s anthem. Kungaloosh!

In my opinion, one of the highlights of the event was the featured clip of “Back to Neverland”, a short film made in 1989 to demonstrate how animated films were created, starring Walter Cronkite and the late Robin Williams. As a big fan of this film (the first episode of The Tiara Talk Show featured an interview with the director of the film, Jerry Rees), I was very happy to see it conclude the portion of the presentation on the 25th anniversary of Disney’s MGM Studios.

As soon as Robin Williams introduced himself in the film as “Chuck”, the theater erupted with applause and laughter. It was a very bittersweet moment for all of us as an audience; we will miss the talent, the characters and, more importantly, the man who made us laugh until we fell out of our seats.

The Fanniversary event concluded with a sing-along to the famous Mary Poppins song written by the Sherman Brothers, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and a chance to see the hat that Julie Andrews’ wore in the 1964 film, “Mary Poppins”, as well as a Duckster Award.

Overall, the “D23 Disney Fanniversary Event” was a lot of fun, with great hosts, plenty of jokes and kept the audience engaged & highly entertained.
